IUD (IUD) and contraceptive options at Femme Verloskundigen The Hague

Contraception after pregnancy or at any other time

Many women first think about contraception after pregnancy. But you can also contact Femme at any other time for advice or a new form of contraception. During an extensive consultation we will calmly discuss your situation and help you make a choice that suits you. Within our team Beau the midwife who specializes in contraception; she provides most contraceptive consultations and placements.

Contraception consultation: what suits you?

During a contraceptive consultation we look together at:

  • Your medical history — what worked (or not) before, any complaints
  • Your lifestyle — does daily swallowing suit you, or would you prefer something longer term?
  • Your future plans — a 5-year spiral or something you can stop more quickly?
  • Advantages and disadvantages per method — hormonal or copper IUD, Implanon, pill, ring or patch

Place spiral

We place both hormonal IUDs (such as Mirena, Kyleena, Jaydess) and the copper IUD in our own practice. Before the installation you will receive a consultation in which everything will be discussed. The installation itself only takes a few minutes. We are available afterwards for a check-up or questions.

Place Implanon

The Implanon rod is a long-acting contraceptive that remains effective for 3 years. Placement is done in the upper arm, a quick and relatively simple procedure. This also includes an extensive preliminary discussion.

Contraception and breastfeeding

Are you breastfeeding? Then not all forms of contraception are suitable. During your consultation we will discuss which options are safe during lactation and what suits your situation.

Compensation

In most cases, the IUD and Implanon are reimbursed by basic insurance (depending on age and any deductible). Insertion by a midwife is usually reimbursed if you are or have been registered with us. This may be different for contraception outside of pregnancy — we will discuss it during your consultation.
