Contraception at Femme Midwives

At Femme you can get contraceptive advice — discussing an IUD, an Implanon implant or other contraception options. We place IUDs and Implanons in our own practice.

Contraception after pregnancy or at any other moment

Many women first think about contraception after a pregnancy. But you can come to Femme for advice or a new form of contraception at any time. During an extensive consultation we calmly discuss your situation and help you make a choice that fits you. Within our team, Beau is the midwife specialising in contraception — she handles most consultations and placements.

Contraception consultation: what fits you?

During a contraception consultation we look at:

  • Your medical history — what worked before (or didn’t), any complaints
  • Your lifestyle — do you want to take a daily pill, or prefer something longer-term?
  • Your future plans — a 5-year IUD or something you can stop sooner?
  • Pros and cons per method — hormonal or copper IUD, Implanon, pill, ring or patch

IUD placement

We place hormonal IUDs (such as Mirena, Kyleena, Jaydess) as well as the copper IUD in our own practice. Before placement you have a consultation in which everything is discussed. The placement itself takes only a few minutes. Afterwards we are available for follow-up or questions.

Implanon placement

The Implanon implant is a long-acting contraceptive that lasts 3 years. Placement is in the upper arm — a quick and relatively simple procedure. A thorough preparatory conversation is included.

Insurance & costs

Contraception consultations and the placement of IUDs and Implanons via your midwife are generally covered by Dutch basic health insurance. Some IUDs themselves are not (cost varies). We’ll always discuss costs with you in advance.
