A positive or negative result can change your life. That’s why you can always take a pregnancy test with us free of charge — whether you’re already a client or not. There’s nothing to arrange: just walk in during our opening hours.
Our midwives are here to look at the result with you and answer your questions. Calmly, without judgement, and entirely at your own pace.
A pregnancy test measures the hormone hCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) in your urine. Your body produces this hormone as soon as a fertilised egg implants. If hCG is present, the test is positive and you are most likely pregnant.
A test is most reliable from the day your period was due. If you test earlier, there may not be enough hCG yet to detect a pregnancy and the result can be unreliable. When in doubt, repeat the test a few days later, preferably with your first morning urine (it’s the most concentrated).
Taken at the right time, a pregnancy test is very reliable. A positive result is almost always correct. A negative result while your period is late may mean you tested too early — repeat the test after a few days. We’re happy to help you understand the result.
