We will then schedule your first appointment in a timely manner and you will have a permanent point of contact from the start.

  • You can register from your positive test

Check-ups during your pregnancy

Quiet, clear controls

We will be in regular contact during your pregnancy. In the beginning about every 4 weeks, later more often. Each check-up consists of a quiet conversation, measuring your blood pressure, listening to your baby's heartbeat and discussing what is on your mind.

  • Blood pressure control
  • Listen to the heart
  • Feel how your baby is lying
  • Blood tests where necessary
  • Space for your questions

Ultrasounds and medical checks

Ultrasounds under one roof

We perform the standard ultrasound scans ourselves in our practice. No extra appointments in another building, just here, with us. The term ultrasound, the 13-week ultrasound and the 20-week ultrasound are part of standard pregnancy care.

Space for your questions

Uncertainty is part of it. That is allowed with us.

A pregnancy is special, and sometimes overwhelming. Doubts, questions, concerns, everything is allowed. You are not a 'difficult patient' when you call. We are there for practical checks, but also for the moments when you do not understand something or want to hear what is normal.

Many women tell us afterwards: I dared to ask anything. That's exactly what we want.

Do you have urgent questions?

Feel free to call us, even outside office hours if you are registered.

Weekly checks

At term: your labor can start at any time

This is the standard schedule for an uncomplicated pregnancy. If you have medical conditions or your wishes, we will adjust it in consultation.

Pregnancy by trimester

What can you expect per phase?

First trimester (weeks 1–13): rest and introduction

A lot happens in the first months, in your body and in your head. Fatigue, nausea, tender breasts or none of those: everything fits within 'normal'. During your first appointment at Femme, usually between 8 and 10 weeks, we get to know each other, ask about your health and family, and explain the process calmly. After this appointment, many women feel for the first time that they 'don't have to figure it out alone'. We schedule the term ultrasound between weeks 10 and 12 to determine the gestational age and due date.

Second trimester (weeks 14–27): The phase where it feels "real."

Many complaints from the first trimester decrease. You will feel your baby, your belly will become visible and you will often have more energy. We see each other about every 4 weeks. The 13-week ultrasound scan is performed around week 13, and the extended 20-week ultrasound scan is performed around week 20. We perform both ultrasounds in our own practice. Around 22 weeks you can get the 22-week injection (whooping cough), which you can often combine with a check-up. You are also welcome for this if you is not (yet) registered with Femme or with another midwife. We also discuss your thoughts about the birth: at home or in the hospital, with or without pain relief.

Third trimester (weeks 28–40+): preparing for childbirth

The checks become more frequent, first every 3 weeks, later every 2 and finally weekly. We measure your blood pressure, feel how your baby is lying and listen to the heartbeat. Around week 30 we make time for the birth plan: what are your wishes, who do you want with us, how do you want us to communicate? A position ultrasound around 36 weeks shows how your baby is lying. From 37 weeks you are at term and your labor can start at any time.

Our care is fully reimbursed

Pregnancy guidance, check-ups, standard ultrasound scans and maternity support are 100% reimbursed by basic insurance, without deductible. For additional ultrasounds, we check per situation whether there is a medical indication. Do you have questions about reimbursement? We are happy to help you.
