After your baby is born, a maternity nurse comes to your home in the first 8–10 days. With our own LAVIDA maternity care team, your midwifery and kraamzorg are perfectly aligned.
Maternity care (in Dutch: kraamzorg) is uniquely Dutch. A trained maternity nurse visits you at home for several hours a day in the first week after birth. She supports you with feeding, baby care, your physical recovery, light household tasks, and signalling any concerns.
It’s one of the things expats often appreciate most about giving birth in the Netherlands — you’re not alone in the first overwhelming days.
Most midwifery practices refer to an external maternity care office. We have our own — LAVIDA. That means:
You arrange kraamzorg during your pregnancy — we help you with this. Once registered, you choose how many hours of maternity care you’d like (the minimum is 24, usually 49 hours over a week is standard).
Maternity care is covered by Dutch basic health insurance. You typically pay a small personal contribution per hour (around €5/hour). The exact amount depends on your insurer and plan.
After registering with us, we help you set this up.
